I’m very excited about this. As part of the cycling community, and of the greater community of citizens and mankind, I believe it is important to always move forward to making life better for not only ourselves, but everyone, if possible. For example, I take care of myself by not smoking, and in turn, the lives of those around me are improved a bit.
This bike plan is a very good first step to making life better for everyone. At first, it will appear that only people who ride bicycles will benefit. But, in the long run, residents and visitors to our city will see and recognize that McKinney is different. More visitors means more commerce, if you’re into that kind of thing. But you will see more of us on our bikes, and that might inspire more people to set out on foot or pedal. As a result, you will breathe cleaner air, and there may be less weekend traffic. Who knows?
There is a lot of work ahead, now that the plan has been approved. And we can’t stop there. I’m proud to have been part of this, but I feel I could have done so much more.
I can be seen on my bike, showing my support. I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements. But just having confident cyclists on the street will be a vast improvement. And I am seeing more of you out there every time I ride.
